How do I use my insurance / report a claim?

You must report your injury / illness to our Health Team before we can process the case. You can do this by calling our Health Team every day of the week between 8 am and 5 pm by phone 7020 6121 or by completing an electronic injury report via your personal page on My DS-Sundhed.

For most treatments, you need a referral from your doctor. Therefore, we always recommend that you initiate the process by contacting your own doctor, who will examine you and evaluate your medical needs.

Only when we have received and approved your claim, will your treatment be covered by the insurance.

Current / ongoing claim?

If your inquiry concerns an injury/illness of which you are currently receiving treatment, you can call our Health Team every day of the week between 8 am and 5 pm on the phone number 7020 6121 or send us an e-mail to: sundhedsteam@ds-sundhed.dk

How long before I receive a decision regarding the approval of my claim?

Once we have received your consent, your claim and the referral from your doctor, it will take 1-2 business days before you hear from us. In some cases, we will need to contact you with clarifying questions before we can complete processing the case.

After the case has been processed, and if the claim is approved by the insurance, you will receive a payment guarantee or we will contact you regarding treatment in our quality assured network.

If the insurance does not cover the current case, we will contact you by e-mail or telephone with the reasons for our refusal. Dansk Sundhedssikring always offer assistance with navigating the public health system, medical advice, etc. concerning injuries / illnesses of which the insurance does not cover treatment.

Do I need a referral from my own doctor?

To receive most treatments the health insurance covers, you will need a referral from your doctor. Therefore, we always recommend that you initiate the process by contacting your own doctor, so your doctor can examine you and refer you to a relevant treatment.

Can Dansk Sundhedssikring download my referral?

Dansk Sundhedssikring unfortunately do not have access to you referral, which is why we need you to send the referral to us. You can download your referral at www.sundhed.dk

Can I go into treatment before I receive an answer regarding my claim?

The insurance does only cover expenses of treatments already approved by Dansk Sundhedssikring. You can therefore only begin treatment after you receive the approval of your claim.

You can complete an electronic injury report via your personal page on My DS-Sundhed or contact our Health Team every day of the year between 8 am and 5 pm.

Where do I find my payment guarantee?

If your claim has been approved and you have received a payment guarantee, you can find it at your personal page on My DS-Sundhed under “Reported Cases”.

You can log in to your personal page with your NemID or with your personal code and login.

Why do I have to give my consent?

In some situations, it might be necessary for us to collect and transmit information about your injury, which is why we need your consent. Your consent is valid for one year after you have provided it. If you regret giving your consent, you can always withdraw it.

Dansk Sundhedssikring will never pass on your personal information to an irrelevant third party.

Please state your name and date of birth, and write what you want to complain about and why. When we receive your complaint, we will investigate the case and the employee responsible of handling complaints will contact you as soon as possible.

Which treatments does my insurance cover?

Your insurance covers treatment of a number of diseases, illnesses and injuries. For more information, read the currently applying insurance terms or contact our Health Team by phone 7020 6121.

Which diseases and injuries are not covered?

The insurance covers a wide range of treatments that are approved and provided in the public healthcare system.
You can read more about what the insurance covers in your insurance terms.

Examples of what the insurance does not cover:

  • Cosmetic treatments, heavy eyelids, obesity operations
  • Acute treatment, for instance on-call doctors, emergency room, blood cloth, ischemic heart disease and other diseases which require quick assistance.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases, birth control, treatment of infertility
  • Congenital disorders
  • Vaccinations and full medical examinations
  • Glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, hearing and visual examinations, dental treatment
  • Alternative and experimental treatment
  • Chronic / permanent illnesses that occurred before you were insured through Dansk Sundhedssikring

Treatment in hospitals and clinics

Dansk Sundhedssikring initiates treatment, examination, scanning or similar within 10 working days in the public or private sector.

If we refer you to a private hospital or a private clinic in our network, we will send the payment guarantee directly to the clinic and they will subsequently send the invoice directly to us. Therefore, do not pay for the treatment yourself.

Treatment by a physiotherapist, chiropractor or phycologist

We always recommend that you initiate the process by going to your own doctor to assess your treatment needs. Your doctor will typically issue a referral to treatment. Thereafter you have to report the injury by contacting our Health Team by phone 7020 6121 or by completing an injury report online via My DS-Sundhed. Remember to attach your referral.

If we approve your treatment, we usually recommend that you choose a treatment provider in our quality assured network of treatment providers.

In the case of psychology and physiotherapy treatment, you will be contacted by a treatment provider from our network within 24 hours. An appointment will be made with a treatment provider who can meet your treatment needs.

For chiropractic treatments, the nurse will help you find a clinic in our quality assured network and you will receive the contact information of the clinic.

You do not need to outlay the money and wait to be reimbursed when using our treatment network. The settlement takes place directly between the treatment provider and Dansk Sundhedssikring.

Can I choose my own treatment provider?

Dansk Sundhedssikring always recommends treatment in our quality assured network. However, when receiving a number of treatments, you will have the option of choosing a treatment provider yourself.

Dansk Sundhedssikring initiates treatment, examination, scanning or similar within 10 working days in the public or private sector.

If we refer to treatment at a private hospital or clinic, we will refer you to a relevant treatment provider in our network.

Please note that the insurance only covers treatment expenses that has been approved by Dansk Sundhedssikring in advance. Therefore, you can only start treatment after we have approved your claim.

Dansk Sundhedssikring’s network

Dansk Sundhedssikring refer to relevant treatments in the public or private sector.

If your treatment is to be conducted at a private hospital or clinic, we have a nationwide collaboration with a number of private hospitals and clinics and our Health Team will direct you to a relevant hospital or clinic, we collaborate with. We continuously quality assure our collaborators based on a number of criteria to ensure high professionalism and expertise throughout the course of treatment.

Dansk Sundhedssikring has a nationwide network of chiropractors, physiotherapists and psychologists.

In case of treatments by psychologists and physiotherapists, you will be contacted by a treatment provider from our network within 24 hours. An appointment will be made with a treatment provider who can meet your treatment needs.

For chiropractic treatments, the nurse will help you find a clinic in our quality assured network and you will receive the contact information of the clinic.

You do not need to outlay the money and wait to be reimbursed when using our treatment network. The settlement takes place directly between the treatment provider and Dansk Sundhedssikring.

Does the insurance cover treatment when I am overseas / on vacation?

The insurance covers examination and treatment in Denmark. Therefore, the insurance does not cover examination, treatment, acute injuries or acute psychologic treatment abroad. If you need treatment after you have returned to Denmark, treatment will be covered in relation to the usual terms and conditions. Dansk Sundhedssikring always offer medical advice and counselling in all cases – also when you are abroad.

How do I buy an insurance?

How do I co-insure my family (spouse/partner/children)?

You can insure your family (spouse and/or children) by logging in to My DS-Sundhed and register them under "Add family member".

You also have the opportunity to complete a family request and submit it to sundhedsforsikring@ds-sundhed.dk.

The price of co-insuring family depends on the individual business agreements.

How long is my child covered by the insurance?

Co-insured children are covered until they turn 21. Thereafter, it is possible to buy a youth insurance, which applies until the insured turns 28. You can get more information about our youth insurance by contacting the Customer Team at 7020 6121 or by e-mail: sundhedsforsikring@ds-sundhed.dk

How do I terminate my insurance?

The insurance can be terminated with one month's notice with the termination applying from the last day of a given month. Termination must be done in writing to Dansk Sundhedssikring.

Right of cancellation – can I regret my purchase?

You always have 14 days of cancellation rights, when you buy your insurance.

Reminder – why did I receive a reminder?

If we have sent you a reminder, it may be because you have not paid your insurance on time, you have rejected the payment yourself, you changed bank or other reasons. In case of missing payment of the insurance premium, Dansk Sundhedssikring can terminate the insurance with 30 days notice, the termination applying from the last day of a given month.

I changed jobs, what do I do?

If you resign, you have the option of continuing your insurance on terms and prices for private customers and without the upper age limit.

If you wish to continue your insurance, you can fill out an online form on the page, Continuation Private, or contact our Customer Team by phone 7020 6121 or by e-mail: sundhedsforsikring@ds-sundhed.dk

You also have the option of continuing with co-insured family, who will also be insured under the conditions for private insured.

If continuation occurs within 3 months after expiry of the previous insurance, continuation will be without quarantine for existing injuries/disorders. For continuation after 3 months, there is 24 months quarantine for existing injuries/disorders.

I retired, what do I do?

There is no upper age limit on the insurance. If you resign from your position, you have the option of continuing your insurance on terms and prices for private customers and without an upper age limit.

I am in flexjob, how am I covered?

Are you employed in a flex job, you are covered as well, though we do not cover treatment of the disorders/injuries that are the reason you are in flex jobs.

Dansk Sundhedssikring always offer medical advice, also on illnesses / injuries that are not covered by the insurance.

Fees and taxes

Administration fee
The administration fee for continuing your insurance from employee to private is 52 kr. pr. year.

Reminder fee
If we do not receive payment for your insurance, an additional fee will be added to your invoice. On the first reminder, the additional fee will be 100 kr., on the second reminder it will be 200 kr. and on the third and last reminder it will be 300 kr. In case of missing payment of the insurance premium, Dansk Sundhedssikring can terminate the insurance with 30 days’ notice, the termination applying from the last day of a given month.

State tax
Dansk Sundhedssikring charge the mandatory state tax on behalf of the Danish State. The state tax has since 2015 amounted to 1,1% of the premium.

Organized discount
Dansk Sundhedssikring do not give out organized discount.

For insured

Do I need to lay out the money for my treatment?

For treatment in Dansk Sundhedssikring’s network, you do not need to outlay money for the treatment. The settlement takes place directly between the treatment provider and Dansk Sundhedssikring.

In case of treatment outside of Dansk Sundhedssikring network, you sometimes have to outlay the payment for the treatment.

If you have paid for an approved treatment yourself, please submit your invoices to Dansk Sundhedssikring. The invoice must be sent to the email address: refusion@ds-sundhed.dk.

Where should I send the invoice, if I paid for a treatment myself?

If you have paid for an approved treatment yourself, please submit your invoices to Dansk Sundhedssikring. The insurance only covers treatment expenses that have been approved by Dansk Sundhedssikring in advance.

The invoice must be sent by e-mail to: refusion@ds-sundhed.dk. Remember to include your account number and registration number.

How do I submit an invoice?

Treatment providers can benefit from our GLN billing option for faster expedition. You can read more about this here.

Please include the payment guarantee’s payment reference when sending the invoice.

How do I log on to my personal page?

You can log on to your personal page on our customer portal, My DS-Sundhed, which you can access at the top of our website.
You can log in with your NemID or with your personal email and password. For security reasons, we always recommend that you use your NemID.

How do I find my login / password?

You can log in to your personal page with your NemID via My DS-Sundhed. For security reasons, we always recommend that you use your NemID.
You can also log in with your associated email address and password. If you have forgotten your password, you can use the "Forgot password?" feature to receive a link to get a new password.
